G.Fast

Overview :

G.Fast is a very high performance technology. In order to achieve the targeted 1 Gbps in G.fast, four critical technologies have been specified.

  • Wider bandwidth

Traditional xDSL uses anywhere from 17-‐30MHz of spectrum to communicate between points. With G.fast, 106 MHz is specified and 212MHz is already being contemplated for future versions.

  • New Duplexing Scheme

G.fast usesTime Division Duplexing (TDD) technology. which used extensively in Wi-Fi and other home networking, uses the entire bandwidth and synchronizes the traffic within very tight time slices – dramatically improving the overall throughput.

  • Vectoring

Most consumers’ phone lines are bound together when they reach the curb. This close proximity between wires causes“crosstalk".Vectoring, a proven approach to eliminate this crosstalk, is included in G.fast. Vectoring can more than double throughput versus traditional methods.

  • Robustness

One major performance challenge to all broadband technologies comes from electrical noises and state-changes that disrupt the communications links. The G.fast solutions have state-of-the-art mechanisms for overcoming these “disruptors” and ensure much higher effective throughput.
